September 27 Chapter Meeting: Please Come!
Our next chapter meeting will be on Wednesday, September 27 at 12:15- 1:30 pm, again in Powdermaker 132 and on Zoom. You can register for the Zoom meeting here. Once again, we’ll have pizza for lunch, and this time we will order much more!
This second chapter meeting this semester will focus on issues on campus. We want to hear your concerns: would you like to see updated smart rooms? More information about the switch to Brightspace? The return of unsponsored research? Better support for adjuncts? An easier system for reclassification for HEOs? Come tell us about your vision for Queens College. We’ll also learn about Vote Cope and hear an update about bargaining, including an overview of what it’s like to attend a bargaining session.
Tabling for Contract Kickoff Week: Visit Us!
The week of September 18 is Contract Kickoff Week, and we’ll be tabling to hand out materials about contract negotiations, the work of our union, and ways to support bargaining for a strong contract. Please look out for our PSC table in the dining hall and near the WWII memorial behind Jefferson Hall on the quad. And if you’re interested in tabling with us, please sign up here. We’re always looking for more volunteers!
Join the NYC Labor Day Parade
On Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10 am PSC members will march in the NYC Labor Day Parade. All are welcome to join the march. If you’re interested, sign up here to receive more information.
Our First Fall 2023 Chapter Meeting
Our first chapter meeting is happening this Wednesday, August 30 from 12:15- 1:30 pm in Powdermaker 132. There will be pizza! You can also join through Zoom here. (We will be testing out a room with new fancy hyflex tech.)
Come hear Penny Lewis, PSC Secretary and member of the bargaining team for our new contract, offer updates about bargaining and answer your questions. We’ll introduce the new officers and delegates for our chapter, and we want to hear from you about your vision for the chapter.
If there’s ever a time to get more involved in our union, it’s now! With contract negotiations underway, we need to show CUNY management that PSC members are willing to come out to support a strong and fair contract that includes salary increases that keep up with inflation, a commitment to faculty governance, and job security.
Please spread the word in your departments and offices about our meeting and bring a colleague. New faculty and staff might not be receiving these emails yet so pass along this message to them too and encourage them to come.

Ben Chitty’s Retirement Party (POSTPONED)
[Update 8/22: This event has been postponed.]
Ben Chitty, a HEO in the library and a long-time PSC activist, is retiring this August. Ben has worked tirelessly to promote health and safety on our campus; he organized the joint committee, a cross-union collaboration that brings together representatives from all the unions on our campus; and he was instrumental in educating our chapter about ventilation issues during (and before) the Covid-19 pandemic. You can read more about Ben’s work in this Clarion interview with him from 2019. Please join us in celebrating Ben! His retirement party will be on Wednesday, August 23 from 4- 7 pm in Remsen 300. There will be lots of food, dessert, and good cheer. All are welcome!
