Demand CUNY fund Queens College’s Immigrant Student Support Center

Greetings, colleagues. I hope your new year is off to a good start and that you found some time to relax and rest over the holidays. Unfortunately, though, when it comes to issues at Queens College, it seems we can never relax.

Amidst an unprecedented set of federal attacks on immigrant communities, Queens College students feel vulnerable and unprotected. One crucial source of support and guidance is the Immigrant Student Support Initiative.  At other campuses in the CUNY system, this program is staffed with full-time personnel, but at Queens College, this is not the case. Our campus needs a full-time Immigrant Student Support staff person and an Immigrant Support Center with regular hours and substantial funding.  I am therefore asking you to help make this a reality by joining me in demanding CUNY address this urgent and essential need by signing the petition found at https://psc-cuny.org/issues/immigrant-solidarity-working-group/petition-fund-an-immigrant-student-support-center-with-full-time-staff-at-queens-college/

Thanks as always for your support.

Best,

Health and Safety Letter Delivered to QC President

Today, over 20 strong visited President Frank Wu on the 12th floor of Kiely Hall to deliver over 1,100 signatures on our Delany Hall Health & Safety letter, including many Delany workers who have fallen ill due to failure of the administration to protect those in and around the building while substantial construction and asbestos abatement took place. President Wu refused to speak to us, instead locking his door and sending four security officers to greet us, and a surrogate to accept the petition.

Nevertheless, we who believe in health and safety for all will not rest!

Next up – join us for a rally on Monday 11/17 at 12:30pm coinciding with the affected workers and students’ grievance hearing. Meet at the flagpole on the quad behind Jefferson Hall, bring your sign!

March and Rally Regarding Delany Hall

Dear colleagues,

First, I want to sincerely thank the hundreds of you who signed (and encouraged others to sign) the petition calling for health, safety, and justice for our colleagues and students who work in, seek services in, or otherwise frequent Delany Hall. The petition is still open, so if you haven’t signed yet, please add your voice to the more than 1,000 people (including supporters from across CUNY and the greater community) who have signed so far! You can find the petition here:  Queens College: We demand health and safety action! – PSC CUNY

But this petition is not the end of our actions. We are taking further steps to press the Queens College administration to take the necessary steps to protect our members, students, and community from further harm. And we again need you.

As some of you may know, the PSC has filed a grievance over the health and safety issues at Delany Hall.  The grievance hearing between PSC Contract Enforcement and the QC administration, will take place on our campus on November 17th, at 1:00 pm.  Our next step is a march, coordinated with this hearing, in support of the Delany Hall community.  We will meet on the day of the hearing (11/17) at 12:30, at the flagpole behind Jefferson Hall (In sight of Delany while staying a safe distance away!). We will then march together to Kiely Hall, where we will have a rally and speak out to make our presence and support clear.

I urge all of you who can make it to be there – we are truly stronger together, and the administration needs to be shown that we as a community will not stand for actions (or inactions) that put any of us at risk.  Please  RSVP here to let us know you will attend.  https://psc-cuny.org/calendar/queens-college-rally-demand-health-and-safety-action/

In solidarity,

Article in the Knight News on Delany Hall

Check out an excellent new article in the Queens College student newspaper, the Knight News, detailing the health and safety problems at Delany Hall: “Dust in Delany Hall: Health Concerns and Displacement of Faculty Due to Mismanaged Ongoing Construction,” 10/27/2025, by Shadman Hoque.

Demand Action – Health Issues at Delany Hall

Dear Colleagues,

As I am sure most of you know, there has been ongoing construction at Delany Hall that is raising serious health concerns for those in and around the building. Please join us in demanding that Queens College take appropriate action to ensure the well-being of those all members of the campus community, especially those who work, seek services, attend classes, or engage in any activities in the building. I urge you to add your signature to the demand letter on the PSC website. Additional background information can be found on the campaigns page.

Thank you for your support.

Best,

Erica Doran, PSC Queens College Chapter Chair

Wed 10/15 Chapter Meeting

Greetings, colleagues!

Please join us for the PSC Queens College chapter meeting on Wednesday, October 15, 12:15-1:30pm. The meeting will be held in hybrid format: in person in Powdermaker 132 (with free pizza!) and on Zoom (register here for the link). All PSC members are welcome! In addition to more general concerns and issues for our upcoming Labor/Management meetings, we will be discussing some upcoming and already enacted changes that impact us all! These will include:

Delany Hall. We will be updating you regarding the current state and our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of those who call Delany home, and the entire campus community. Sign the letter to the Queens College Administration.

Academic freedom concerns, specifically the PSC campaign in solidarity with the Fired Four and others. CUNY has denied the step one grievance appeal of the four Brooklyn College adjuncts who were terminated this past July over the objections of their department chairs, in apparent retaliation for their views and activism in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Please note that prior to our chapter meeting, there is a rally this Friday, October 10 at 12:00pm at CUNY Central, 217 East 42nd Street in Manhattan, to support the Fired Four during their step two grievance hearing and make clear that we don’t accept this attack on our academic freedom. You can also send an email demanding reinstatement of the fired four – details can be found at https://psc-cuny.org/issues/reinstate-the-fired-four-at-brooklyn-college/.

The new campus package delivery procedures. Do you have concerns about the new campus package delivery procedures? Send them to us at [email protected] and/or bring them to the October 15 chapter meeting so we can share them with the QC administration at our October 16 Labor-Management meeting.

Healthcare changes. As of January 1, 2026, the current GHI option will no longer be available. Open enrollment starts November 1st. We will talk about what this means and steps our members should take before the open enrollment period closes on November 30th!

Chapter elections. The Queens College chapter will hold its regular elections in the spring for the next three-year term for all executive committee positions. The deadline for submitting nominations is in January 2026. To run for office, you must be a member in good standing for at least one year in the QC chapter of the PSC. To vote in chapter elections you must be a member of the chapter in good standing for at least four months.

Not a member yet? Join the PSC.
