Defend the right to demonstrate at Queens College!

Queens College administration and President Frank Wu issued a new “Interim Queens College Guidance Regarding Time, Place, and Manner Regulations for Demonstrations on Campus” during the 2024-2025 winter break when they thought no one would notice. These new guidelines are arbitrarily and needlessly restrictive, and infringe on our constitutional rights to free speech as students, faculty, staff, and community members. 

Sign and share widely our union’s letter to QC president Frank Wu, urging him to scrap the interim guidance. Anyone can sign the letter, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members from QC, across CUNY, and beyond.

We won’t be silenced! QC admin loves to honor activists from the past like Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Andrew Goodman–the Queens College student and civil rights activist who was murdered in Mississippi in 1964–while shutting down the right to protest on campus today.

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) sent its own letter to President Wu, criticizing the unconstitutional overreach of the new guidance.

Halloween Action

The Queens College PSC-CUNY Chapter is having a Halloween action on Wednesday, October 30th and Thursday, October 31st on the Queens College quad. 

We will hand out candy as well as “Trick or Treat” flyers that summarize contract bargaining to date: “tricks” are management’s positions and “treats” are ours. We will also ask faculty, students, and staff to fill out orange index cards, answering the question: “What scares you about Queens College?”

PICKET CUNY MANAGEMENT!

CUNY’s negotiators have failed to improve on their economic offer since March. We’ll be gathering in November in borough-based groups outside CUNY Central every week to make sure they can’t ignore our calls for a fair contract now! More information and RSVP.

Instead of resisting CUNY’s unjustified demand for budget cuts, Queens College administration decided to lay off 26 full time Queens College faculty, just weeks before the semester! These sudden and cruel layoffs deeply hurt faculty’s livelihoods, and in some cases take away their healthcare benefits. The administration’s brutal conduct affected hundreds of students and instructors, and dramatically cut course offerings at the college. You can read more about the layoffs on our press page.

Join us on Thursday, January 25, to demand that Queens College reverse these outrageous layoffs:
At 9 AM meet us in the Music building to distribute flyers informing the Queens College community about these cuts!
At 12 PM meet us in front of Kiely Hall, to protest the layoffs and the budget cuts that destroy our college.
