Towards the end of the spring semester, temporary services budgets at QC were slashed by 50%, leading many College Assistants (CAs) and Non-Teaching Adjuncts (NTAs) to lose their positions and resulting in loss of hours (and benefits) for many others.

And the cuts don’t stop there — more recently, department chairs learned that their adjunct budgets (which have already been drastically cut previously) were being cut by an additional 25% or more!

We do not need to tell you how devastating such cuts would be for everyone. We all know that CUNY runs on adjunct power, and nowhere more so than at QC, where in the last 2 years we have lost 61 (10%) of our full-time faculty positions. If these cuts stand, members will lose their employment (and benefits). That is reason enough to push back hard. But it also means needed classes will not run, leaving students with no choice to go elsewhere, which will then lead to more cuts. For so many reasons, we cannot let this happen without a fight!

We are pushing back, hard, against these cuts, but this is an all-hands-on-deck situation.
